Upcoming events 2010
La ALTERNATIVA
Directors Kathleen Hermesdorf and Albert Mathias recently returned from 2 weeks of teaching at Escuela Profesional de Danza Mazatlán and rehearsing with Omar Carrum of Delfos in Mazatlán, Mexico. They were also working on plans to bring Alternative Conservatory’s Spring 2-week Intensive to the company & school’s studios in the city’s historic center (5 short blocks from the beach) in April 2011 and to collaborate with Delfos on work for the 2012 San Francisco International Arts Festival.

February 2 – 12 & March 1 – May 21
G.U.T. Techniques • M/W/F • 10-12 - This class is moving back to ODC Commons 3/15
A general unified theory focused on the act of motion from internal impulse to external expression, motivated from gut and guts, and translating to ‘good’. Organizing a hybrid of forms to encourage deep physical awareness, understanding and impetus, the work is a visceral and detailed development of energy cultivation, hands-on exercises, somatic improvisation, technical experiments, methods of falling, flying and inversion, and full-bodied dynamic phrases. The practice demands interactive intelligence, sensate virtuosity, creativity, rhythm and stamina. The class is an intimate, animated training ground and dynamic arena for exploration.

ALTERNATIVE CONSERVATORY
Alternative Conservatory exists to cultivate, enrich, and affect the form and field of dance via professional level training in 21st century motives, manifestations and relationships to other art forms. It is an immersive, intensive, international, modular and mobile training ground, alternative and complementary to academia, and an arena for serious engagement and exchange. Alternative Conservatory also works in collaboration with KUNST-STOFF arts (www.kunst-stoff.org) in San Francisco, P.O.R.C.H./Stephanie Maher (www.ponderosa-dance.de) in Stolzenhagen, Germany and Delfos/Claudia Lavista & Omar Carrum (www.delfosdanza.com) in Mazatlán, Mexico.

La ALTERNATIVA launched Alternative Conservatory with a week long New Year's Intensive, Tenacity 2010, including Sara Shelton Mann and Yannis Adoniou as faculty, and serving 40 serious dancer artists from the Bay Area, US, Mexico, Canada and Jamaica. We trained from 10-5 in the studio, met from 7-10 in a salon/exchange format, and performed in tributes to Merce, Pina and Michael at our New Year's Eve Party/K-S arts Opening.
